Maths Mind Snacks for Teachers

We are offering a range of one hour PD sessions focussed on specific areas of mathematics, which will allow teachers to work on some maths together as part of a wider mathematics community.  This will include exploring understanding of concepts and structures and considering how to make best use of the ideas with learners.

Teachers can attend one or multiple sessions: (see list below)

NQTs: Learning about maths teaching through studying lessons - KS1

There is much that can be learnt from studying lessons, noticing teaching decisions and considering the impact of these decision on learners. For new teachers, the study of a lesson can be enhanced by listening to experienced teachers discussing their observations and then reflecting on this discussion.

These days will provide NQTs with an opportunity to observe a lesson alongside experienced teachers, listen to the teachers discuss their observations of the lesson and then discuss their own observations with peers. It is an opportunity to consider the intention, implementation and impact of teaching within a single lesson.

Early Career Programme

The two half-days in this programme will explore key ideas in mathematics teaching including the principles underpinning teaching for mastery, the importance of reasoning and assessing understanding. Participating teachers will have an opportunity to discuss areas of mathematics teaching they find challenging and explore ways to be more effective. Targeted at early career teachers, the day will also be suitable for returning teachers and teachers new to primary.

Diagnostic Assessment in Mathematics (2 Session Course)

As we welcome all children back to school, after an unprecedented near 6 months absence, accurately assessing their learning will underpin any and all activity to help the recovery process and to make sure children are in a position to catch up.

Diagnostic assessment gives teachers a nuanced understanding of children’s learning so that they can plan their teaching to match the needs of the class or their additional interventions to match the needs of smaller groups or individuals.
