This training will enable delegates to explore the use of a number of assessments that can be administered by teachers and teaching assistants both to develop a more precise understanding of a pupil’s language difficulties and to inform the full diagnostic process.
The tests examined will include non-word reading and short-term memory tests. In addition delegates will be shown how to use a test of phonological skills that they can readily use in schools.

There is much that can be learnt from studying lessons, noticing teaching decisions and considering the impact of these decision on learners. For new teachers, the study of a lesson can be enhanced by listening to experienced teachers discussing their observations and then reflecting on this discussion.
These days will provide NQTs with an opportunity to observe a lesson alongside experienced teachers, listen to the teachers discuss their observations of the lesson and then discuss their own observations with peers. It is an opportunity to consider the intention, implementation and impact of teaching within a single lesson.
